Swift Water Flood Rescue Technician - SWFR Technician
SWFR - Technician is a water practical, self-rescue, instructor-led course that provides the rescuer with more advance fundamental training on survival within moving water environments. This course provides the students with knowledge in enhanced hydrology understanding, fundamentals in swift water swimming, advance shore and in-water in-boat rescues. In addition, students will learn basic fundamentals of rope rescue to include mechanical advantages and various anchor systems.
This course is designed for personnel to perform technical level water rescues in high risk water related situations. This course is a highly strenuous with most of the time spent in the water. Individuals who attend this course MUST complete a 300 meter swim in 12 minutes prior to the class and should have at least medium swimming capabilities.

SWFR-Operations and those who are seeking additional knowledge ans skills in order to meet certain job, regulatory, or other requirements.
COURSE CONTENT:
Implement the Incident Command System
Enhanced understanding of ropes
Enhanced understanding of knots
Enhanced understanding of mechanical systems
Enhanced Risk verses Benefit analysis
Demonstrate effective Offensive Swimming
Enhanced knowledge hydrology and the effects in offensive swimming techniques
Knowledge of team dynamics
Enhanced ability to perform low to high rescues
Psychological and Physiological behavior of victims
Swift Water Rescue Operations from a variety of rural, suburban, and urban situations
COURSE FORMAT: This is field practical-based which includes instructor and skills interaction throughout the course. The course is approximately 36 hours (3 days) in length.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
Footwear appropriate to the environment (no dive boots)
Personal Flotation Device (PFD) Type III / V appropriate for Swift Water Rescues
Swift Water Rescue Helmet
Whistle attached to the PFD
Long pants or full wet suit (no dry suits recommended)

CERTIFICATION: Upon completion of this course, students receive a Swift Water Flood Rescue - Technicians Course completion certificate and card that is valid for 2 years. If this is your highest current certification it is recommended to attend a refresher course every 2 years to remain current on new practices and technology.
