NAEMT Refresher series were designed to provide EMS Educators with a concise course that meet the National Register of EMT's (NREMT) national recertification requirements in accordance with the National Continued Competency Program (NCCP).
The EMT Refresher course is a 20-hour, instructor led course that was built from NAEMT's evidence-based research continuing education courses, including Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS), and EMS Safety.
AUDIENCE: This course is for Emergency Medical Technician practitioner levels.
Just like every NAEMT course, these Refresher series are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) and recognized by the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT). Those EMTs looking to renew their National Registry EMT certification or gain CE credits towards recertification, will receive instruction on the following topics:

Airway:
Review the anatomy of the airway and the physiology of ventilation
Recognize methods to provide oxygenation to a patient
Cardiology:
Comprehend cardiac arrest management for the adult and pediatric patient
Differentiate cardiac conditions associated with assessment findings in a patient
Identify signs and symptoms of abnormal neurologic function
Trauma:
Identify methods to effectively triage patients in the prehospital setting
Describe hemorrhage control management
Discuss the management of CNS injuries
Medical:
Comprehend the assessment of patients with a medical condition
Review anatomy and physiology changes of the obstetric patient
Identify patients with special healthcare needs
Discuss the management of patients with infectious disease
Identify signs and symptoms of patients with a psychiatric condition
Describe assessment findings of patients exposed to toxidromes
Recognize methods used to treat endocrine disorders

Descibe how crew resource management enhances patient and provider safety
Identify the risks associated with emergency vehicle operations
Recognize methods for safe and effective patient transport

COURSE FORMAT: This classroom-based course includes instructor, PowerPoint, and skill interaction throughout the course. The course is approximately 20-hours (two days) in length.
